How Traditional Cigarettes are Bad for the Environment

Smoking has never been good to the health of anybody. Millions of people are losing their lives every year because of it. Smoking related diseases are never easy to treat and most people end up succumbing to them. Aside from being harmful to our health, the environment as a whole is never spared. This article is going to focus on the scary details about how cigarettes can seriously damage the environment.

Air pollution comes in first on the list of the harmful effects of cigarette smoking. This is a fact well know to everybody. Smoking alone does not pollute the air. The air produced during the curing process of tobacco also leads to air pollution. Cigarette smoke contains over six thousand types of chemicals. With that said, you can only imagine how harmful the chemical should be to the environment. Thanks to cigarette smoking, we have global warming. In a nut shell, cigarette smoking is the worst enemy of the air we breathe.

Fire outbreaks are also caused by cigarette smoking especially in homes and forests. When such incidences occur, animals ,vegetation and man suffer.

Cigarette butts also pollute our oceans. The toxins that come with the butts are not safe for aquatic life. Researchers recently discovered that a cigarette is able to kill half the fish and other ocean creatures that are exposed to its toxins. With that said, you can only imagine the dangerous effects it will have on the environment as a whole.

Cigarette smoking is also harmful to our lands. Did you know that cigarette butt is by far the number one items discarded as trash all over the world? What makes it worse is that they are non-biodegradable and are therefore able to buildup as trash. With the toxins the butts contain, the land is not safe at all.

Natural soil is not spared when harmful effects of tobacco smoking strike. Tobacco leaches the soil of natural occurring nutrients and mineral responsible for native plant growth. That simply means that we will not be able to enjoy the benefits that come with the plants around us. At the end of the day, this will be harmful to the native environment, flora and fauna. In a nut shell, with the increase in tobacco smoking, the would will no longer be a safe place for both plants and animals.

In summary, cigarette smoking should be highly discouraged for the sake of the environment and the future of the world in general.
